Why MORE Exists
Across newsrooms and screens around the world, African stories have often been filtered through outside voices. MORE was created to close that gap and to give representation a permanent home.
The Founder’s Journey
MORE was founded by Semantics King Jr., a journalist whose career began in West Africa as a young reporter. He co-founded a human rights newspaper at the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana and hosted a community talk show on Stone FM 105 in Harbel, Liberia. In 2006, he was named a Permanent Journalism Fellow of the World Press Institute (WPI). His path has taken him across Liberia, Ghana, Canada, and the United States, and he now builds MORE from the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
That journey – from a community radio station to a refugee camp and then to a global fellowship – shapes everything MORE does. It is why we insist on local voices first, and why we treat storytelling as a form of empowerment rather than only a form of reporting.
